Though the F430 Challenge retains the same general look and 360kW engine as the 'cooking model' car, it features a number of track-orientated mods. Developed at Ferrari's own Fiorano test track and destined to replace the 360 Challenge in one-make race series in Europe and the USA, the sub-1300kg F430 Challenge debuts carbon-ceramic brakes (CCM) in a Ferrari sports competition car.
The electronic gearbox is F1-derived. Gear ratios and suspension have been revised for track use and the car features centrelock 19-inch alloys for fast changes in the pits. And if you need any more convincing that the F430 Challenge is a pukka racer, witness the quick-release steering wheel complete with buttons for radio contact with the pits, set the pit lane speed and interface with the digital instrument panel!
Ferrari's Frankfurt stand also featured the MY06 version of the flagship 612 Scaglietti. Unveiled at Detroit in 2004, according to Ferrari, the 612 now has an even more impressive standard spec than ever and features "a brighter and even more elegant cockpit finish."
Also on display was the GTC Handling package for the 612 which offers a more sporty set-up with carbon-ceramic brakes, a gearbox software upgrade and 19-inch rims.
