KIA CARENS

Kia has ‘unveiled’ its new Carens MPV

Hot on the heels of its Golf-hunting Ceed concept hatch, Kia has delivered a sneak peek at its next generation MPV.

The all-new compact peoplemover will reprise the name Carens for Europe (and Australia) and will be called Rondo in the North American market.

Seen here in concept sketch form, the all-new Carens will make its world premiere at the Salon International del Automovil de Madrid. The bi-annual Spanish motor show is held in the country’s capital and opens on May 25.

Larger than the model it replaces, and somewhat better styled, the Carens will be available as a seven-seat version for the first time. The rear seats fold down flat into the luggage compartment floor when not required.

Underlining the importance of the European marketplace to Kia, the Carens launch will be the fifth new model -- following the Picanto, Rio, Sportage and Carnival -- to make its debut at a European motor show.

The new Carens follows on from the company’s Multi-S Concept (also pictured). Displayed at last year’s Frankfurt show, the Multi-S featured innovative storage areas, a multi-panel glass roof and a surround sound mobile cinema system.
