CHRYSLER

Without the 'Daimler' name, Chrysler has settled on a new tactic to maintain customer confidence into the future

In an expression of abiding confidence in the quality and durability of all their drivetrain components, Chrysler in America has announced a 'lifetime' warranty for Chrysler, Jeep and Dodge vehicles.

Available for certain Chrysler vehicles purchased after July 26 2007, the warranty covers labour costs as well as parts for all drivetrain components, which comprise the engine, transmission and final drive. Chrysler is yet to announce the vehicles that will be covered for the lifetime of the vehicle.

The new warranty regime is contingent on the vehicle's drivetrain being inspected by an authorised dealer every five years as a minimum. Chrysler advises that the inspection is free, but must be carried out within 60 days of each fifth anniversary of the vehicle's ownership.

"This new Chrysler Lifetime Powertrain Warranty is a statement of confidence to our customers to the reliability of their powertrain. It's peace-of-mind reassurance for as long as they own the vehicle," said Steven Landry, Exec VP of Sales and Marketing of Service and Parts for the Chrysler Group in North America.

The lifetime drivetrain warranty is not under consideration for Australia, according to Jerry Stamoulis, Public Relations Manager for the Chrysler Group here.

"It's a US initiative. It illustrates the confidence in reliability those guys have.

"Every market is different...we have the free two-year insurance (for Dodge, more here); that's not something they do in the US, so we do things a little bit differently, depending on the market.

"That's not to say that we will never do it (introduce a lifetime drivetrain warranty), but at this stage, we won't be."
