Holden Special Vehicles (HSV) has kicked off its year of 20th Anniversary celebrations at AIMS with two new models -- the E-Series (VE-based) Maloo ute and a special commemorative limited edition ClubSport R8.

The Maloo was outed last week ahead of the show-related embargo (more here) but HSV kept the Anniversary 'Clubbie' up its sleeve.

According to HSV Managing Director Scott Grant just 100 of the specially-equipped and finished 'Sandstorm' hued R8s will be offered. They feature unique sill plates, side décor treatments, leather sports seats, black and gold finished brake calipers and GTS-style front grille. The powertrain is unchanged.

"The birth of HSV and the reveal of the very first VL Group A SS Commodore took place at the 1987 Sydney motor show.  From those humble beginnings, HSV has gone on to produce over 55,000 vehicles," Grant said.

"It is only fitting that today we unveil a limited edition model to commemorate the company's 20th Anniversary," he said.

Grant commented that 2007 would see the performance arm "step up a gear". It's speculated that the company will debut new more powerful engine configurations in 2008 -- perhaps at the Melbourne motor show.

The 20th Anniversary ClubSport R8 goes on sale this month priced from $65,990 for the six-speed manual.

Look out for our launch review of the new Maloo later this month
