AUDI RS6

Audi's S6 is already on sale, but a hotter version is just around the corner

Audi is readying its hottest '6' ever. The new RS6 will build on the performance credentials of the recently-released S6 (more here) and take on the likes of Mercedes' E63 AMG and the BMW M5.

Captured here by the Carsales Network's spymasters testing at Germany's Nurburgring, the RS6 is due for release at this September's Frankfurt Show.

Though the body changes are disguised by Audi's prototype paint, the giveaways are the RS's larger front bumper, flared guards and the rear diffuser. While the S models have four round exhaust pipes, the RS models will receive oval pipes as a distinguishing feature.

Shown is the saloon, but the new RS6 will also be available as an estate -- Avant in Audi-speak.

Pundits expect the car to get a version of the V10 that powers the S6. This time the Lamborghini-based engine gets turbo forced induction and delivers 380kW-plus.
