PORSCHE CAYMAN

Black is the new 'Guards Red' for this limited edition Porsche Cayman S

With apologies to the late Douglas Adams, even the lights light up black in Porsche's very limited edition Cayman S Design Edition 1.

777 units will be built by Porsche for world-wide consumption and only a small number of those will reach Australia early next year.

Price is $172,900 and, for that you'll get a car finished primarily in black (leather and Alcantara for the interior) and featuring Porsche Active Suspension Management for a ride height lowered by 10mm; 19-inch 'Turbo' wheels and 5mm spacers for a wider track. Front tyres measure 235/35 ZR19 and the rear tyres, 265/35 ZR19.

The limited edition model pays homage to the Porsche Design Studio, established 35 years ago by Ferdinand Alexander Porsche and responsible for the Chronograph 1s wristwatch, which was the model for the Cayman's instruments.

The Porsche Design Studio has been the force behind many industrial, luxury and general consumer items over the past 35 years. To promote the synergies between the car manufacturer and the design studio, buyers of the limited edition Cayman will also receive a case of Porsche Design merchandise, finished in black -- or matt black, if you prefer.

Porsche will unveil the Cayman S Design Edition 1 at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.
