Chinese owners of Rover designs develop a new mid-size model

Somehow, despite the fire sale of the old Rover Group to the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation, Ford ended up with the 'Rover' name (more here), so new models from the Chinese company will be marketed as 'Roewe' instead.

It's believed the car pictured here will be marketed as the Roewe 450 and is a medium size vehicle which will slot in between the former Rover 75 (Roewe 750) and the Rover 25 (Roewe 250 -- seen here briefly in MG form as the ZR).

The new car is a totally new development incorporating European styling cues, according to spy photo specialists, Carparazzi.

It may be a goer for the Frankfurt motor show in two months or we may have to wait until the Shanghai motor show next year. The car is heavily disguised, but the high waist and low roof appear to be an evolution of the Rover 75's styling. Note what appears to be a clamshell bonnet in the pictures.
