An extra-value Sorento limited edition commemorates around-the-world odyssey by Swedish adventurer

Kia has announced a limited edition model based on the company's Sorento SUV. Equipped with $3,400 worth of extra features, the Sorento Global Circuit is the company's tribute to Swede Christer Gerlach, who drove a Sorento around the world in 2005.

This year, Gerlach retraced the route for the 2008 Dakar Rally, which was ultimately cancelled out of concern that terrorists were rumoured to be planning an attack on the event and its competitors.

The limited edition model is available with either the 2.5-litre turbodiesel engine or the 3.3-litre petrol V6 and -- for no extra cost -- offers the following additional features: a towbar with wiring, nudge bar, roof bars, carpet mats, rear parking sensors, alloy side steps, rubber cargo mat, ARB recovery kit and unique badging.

"Christer Gerlach, considered by many to be the most experienced solo endurance driver in the world, has proven the strength and reliability of Sorento across thousands of kilometres of the roughest terrain," says Bill Gillespie, Director of Sales and Marketing for Kia in Australia.

"He drove it solo around the world via Mongolia and Siberia, he drove it through some of the toughest environments in Africa, and he's earned entries in the Guinness Book of Records for his feats.

"This limited edition Global Circuit pack recognises the significance of his achievements by bringing together some of the equipment most sought by Sorento customers who want to undertake their own big adventure."

The Sorento Global Circuit has landed in Kia showrooms this month and will remain available until October.
