Spy pics capture the first look inside Porsche's next Cayenne

These spy photos from Carparazzi show the next version of Porsche's Cayenne SUV and reveal that there's not an awful lot to -- reveal.

About the best indication of development from the photos is that the Cayenne is in line for a steering wheel change. The new wheel appears to get a chunkier look than before with a circular centre boss and integrated paddles at the outer edges of the spokes that control the Cayenne's auto transmission.

Carparazzi's team also reported seeing a "multi-tiered gauge cluster" as well as aluminium trim strips on the door panels.

As reported here earlier, the upcoming Cayenne rework does feature a fair bit of sheet metal reworking, even if the basic structural hard points appear to pretty much replicate those of the current model.

There is little to suggest any changes in the glasshouse area for example, yet there's no disputing there are new door panels with concavities in the area between the sill panels and lower side window lines.

In this undisguised prototype car, a new front end with a more smoothly integrated grille, outer bonnet ribs and new headlights is balanced against a less noticeable rework of the tail end where some re-profiling of the tailgate lid and new, more squared-off taillights just about top it off.

The upcoming Cayenne is reportedly more economical and less polluting than the current vehicle. A diesel version is expected to join the range sooner rather than later, with the long rumoured hybrid expected some time in 2012.

The new-look Cayenne is mooted to be launched in 2010.
