A facelift of the Maserati Quattroporte will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show tonight, local time. We first brought you news of this upgraded model in June of last year, as the revised Quattroporte underwent testing at the Nurburgring (more here).
Dating back to 2004, the Quattroporte was in need of a refresh and Maserati handed over the task of updating the large sedan's looks to famed stylists, Pininfarina. The Italian styling studio has confined the project to a new (larger) grille with vertical slats, revised bumpers, new mirrors, a more prominent under-door moulding, upgraded headlights and new LED tail lights.
As is apparent from our earlier report this is an upgrade that has been a long time in the making, but we doubt that any delay in reaching production was just due to getting the styling cues right.
The facelift isn't going to leap out at you from across a car park, but Maserati has spent the development budget wisely nonetheless, adapting the 4.7-litre V8 engine from the GrandTurismo S to fit in the Quattroporte's engine bay.
The prestigious Italian manufacturer will offer the upgraded Quattroporte in two levels, the standard car and the Quattroporte S. It's the latter which will be powered by the 4.7-litre V8 and the entry-level variant continues with the same 4.2-litre V8 from the superseded range. Both engines are matched to ZF six-speed automatic transmissions.
Inside, there's a new centre console with controls clustered closer together and the satellite navigation system has been upgraded, now integrated with the information and entertainment system. The previous beige leather trim is replaced by a choice of leather in two shades: Marrone Corniola and Sabbia.
According to the local distributor, the Quattroporte has proved highly lucrative for Maserati over the years, selling 15,000 units globally -- and thus, its importance to the marque should not be underestimated.
Fresh from Paris, the upgraded Quattroporte will put in an appearance at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney a week later.
