These are the latest shots of BMW's upcoming M version of the X5.

The new pics just taken by Carparazzi reveal the M status by way of the signature vents aft of the front wheelarches, oversize oxygen-gulping front air intakes and the usual quad exhausts.

The latter will be venting an as-yet unannounced powerplant that invites all sorts of speculation from 6.0-litre V12 to the M5's 5.0-litre V10 - or, now mooted as most likely, an M version of the 300kW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that is due to be launched shortly in the X5-derived X6 'Sports Activity Coupe'.

The hot X5 can be seen in action on an official web video from BMW which, unfortunately, gives little information other than the fact the company is on the case.

A frequently asked question is: "We have the BMW M3, M5 and M6. Does this mean the company is about to give us an MX5?"
