Holden's VE Sportwagon, Peugeot's 308 Touring and the Volkswagen Passat CC didn't take out the Australian International Design of the Year -- that accolade went to an airliner's seat.
But just like the game shows, nobody went home disappointed, with the three cars each taking home a Design Award within the Automotive & Transport category.
Holden also earned a Wheels Automotive Design Award for the Sportwagon. The AIDA judges commended the wagon for "an innovative tailgate and a solid rear tray".
Volkswagen's Passat CC boasted 'Best Exterior Design' and the Peugeot, applauded for its interior, also snatched the Wheels Automotive Design Award for 'Best Interior'.
"The Australian International Design Awards, a division of Standards Australia, recognises and rewards product design and innovation excellence," said Stephanie Watson, Program Director of the Australian International Design Awards.
"This year, the standard of entry was exceptionally high, with 30 Design Awards presented in recognition of design excellence and 43 Design Marks awarded for good design."
Of those 43 Design Marks, Standards Australia judges awarded four -- one each -- to Volkswagen's seven-speed DSG; Audi's A4 and A4 Avant; Ford's Falcon G-Series and Hyundai's i30cw.
