Decal-encrusted green cars prove a popular means of flashing planet-friendly credentials

Melbourne-based car share outfit Flexicar is marking World Environment Day with the arrival of two Civic Hybrids, care of a deal with Honda Australia.

It's a simple arrangement: Honda has lent Flexicar two Civic Hybrids for the next 12 months, starting on June 5 -- World Environment Day.

The cars, going by the monickers of Dreamer and Harmony, will sport distinctive livery denoting they are a) Flexicars and b) hybrids.

Dreamer will operate from the company's Flagstaff spot in Melbourne, while Harmony will work out of Crown Street in the inner Sydney suburb of Surry Hills.

The company says it's particularly pleased with the deal because it allows customers access to hybrid motoring at standard rates.

Flexicar CEO Monique Conheady described the deal as "a demonstration of the innovative business partnerships that are going to be required as we move to a more sustainable future."

The all-important celebrity cachet for the reveal came in the person of fashion designer and hybrid driver Akira Isogawa.

Meanwhile, in the solar state, Brisbane's Greenfest proved a useful venue for broadband company Internode to flag its carbon neutrality by putting Australia's first Tesla Roadster on show. Internode CEO Simon Hackett said the car neatly complements Internode's green initiatives. "The point of the exercise is to demonstrate that it is possible to be both green and high performance: Like a Roadster -- and, indeed, like Internode," he said.

Describing itself as "Australia's largest free green festival", the three-day Greenfest starts on World Environment Day at the Brisbane Botanic Gardens.
