If you reckoned the Toyota Kluger KX-R lacked a little gear and the options list was a tad expensive, then maybe you'd better rush down to the nearest Toyota showroom and take a peek at the special-edition Altitude model that's just gone on sale.

With what Toyota claims are $4500 worth of added features thrown for a recommended retail increase of $1500, it all sounds like a good deal in these times of higher new-car prices and slowing large SUV sales.

The seven-seat Kluger Altitude is available in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive form. Extra equipment over the regular KX-R includes 19-inch alloy wheels, a power sunroof, rear-seat DVD, black roof rails, front fog lamps and Luna (a new exterior colour that is matched with a black fabric interior trim).

This is on top of standard KX-R gear including stability and traction control, Hill-start Assist and, on the all-wheel drive model, Downhill Assist Control.

Kluger KX-R safety equipment includes seven airbags -- incorporating full-length side curtain airbags and a driver's knee airbag -- and a reversing camera.

TOYOTA KLUGER ALTITUDE RECOMMENDED RETAIL PRICES
2WD $45,490
AWD $49,990
Pearlescent, metallic paint $400
