As GM divests itself of its Scandinavian operations, Saab's future is looking brighter than an arctic summer after images of its next generation flaghsip car broke cover.
A photo of the new 2010 model Saab 9-5 was published on the Saab United website recently, but the luxury European car isn't due to be (officially) unveiled until later in the year.
Boasting a dynamic new style that shows the kind of originality and style that Saab used to be renowned for, the new 9-5 could be the car that puts the Swedish auto maker back on the new car map.
Saab insiders are making very positive murmurs about the new model but considering the mundane model it replaces, the only way is up for the new 9-5.
Just last week the Swedish car maker manufactured its last current generation 9-5 vehicle and retooling is underway to ready the Trollhättan factory to build the new model line.
Updated powertrains will also be a draw card for the new Saab 9-5, which is expected to include a range of diesel and petrol four-cylinder turbo engines. Six-cylinder blocks may also find their way under the bonnets of the new 9-5 and biofuel models will be offered as well.
With Swedish super car maker Koenigsegg still working through the particulars of buying Saab and all of its assets from ailing owner General Motors (more here), Saab's future is looking brighter than it has for quite some time.
