Audi is planning to launch a pair of new TT coupes in Australia that will be powered by small turbocharged four-cylinder engines.
The two new models are the TT 1.8-litre TFSI petrol, rated at 118kW/250Nm, and the TT 2.0 TDI diesel which delivers 125kW/350Nm.
As well as being stylish and relatively rapid European coupes, both models will be miserly modes of transport. The 1.8-litre TFSI petrol TT uses a claimed average of just 6.7L/100km yet dashes from zero to 100km/h in 7.2secs.
Audi's oil-burning TT meanwhile is a bit slower, taking 7.5sec to reach 100km/h (225km/h top speed). However it's a very green vehicle, using a claimed 5.3L/100km while belching out just 139 grams of CO2 per kilometre.
These two models are expected to increase interest in the Audi TT range in Australia and will join the current crop of TTs, which includes the 2.0-litre turbo (in several states of tune including the super-fast TTS), the V6 quattro and the upcoming TT RS with a five-cylinder powerplant.
With this pair of front-wheel drive TT models pitched at a lower price, the iconic sports car will attract a wider audience and could significantly increase sales of the German coupe.
