BMW Australia's focus on its EfficientDynamics program continued yesterday with the local launch of the 330d. The newest addition to the 3 Series range is also the latest model to benefit from the company's push towards a more frugal future.
With more torque than the range-topping V8-powered M3 but with a claimed combined fuel consumption of 6.8L/100km BMW is trumpeting the 330d as a major part of EfficientDynamics.
"BMW continues to roll out the fruits of its industry-leading EfficientDynamics engine programme in Australia which brings the triple benefits of high-performance, low consumption and low emissions," said Tom Noble, BMW Group Australia's general manager of marketing.
"The new BMW 330d Sedan gives our customers the opportunity to mix V8 engine performance with four-cylinder fuel economy, but at the same time delivering the tangible delights of our highly-acclaimed straight-six cylinder engines.
"BMW in Australia has been selling increasing volumes of diesel vehicles each year. Our customers really appreciate the benefits of high torque, low consumption engines."
But this blend of performance and economy comes at a high price with the 330d starting at $87,250 (price guide not including statutory and government charges), positioning it just below the twin-turbo 335i in the range. However, BMW is quick to indicate that the 330d is the best equipped diesel 3 Series the company has offered locally.
Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, bigger brakes, leather upholstery, navigation, bi-xenon adaptive headlights, 10-speaker stereo system, Bluetooth connectivity, USB and AUX-in connections, chrome exterior accents and keyless entry and ignition.
