Entry-level large car reduced by $3000

Local distributor for the Citroen brand, Ateco Automotive, has knocked over $3000 off the price of the C5 Comfort sedan and Tourer. Now starting from $46,990 for the sedan and $49,990 for the Tourer -- both driveaway prices -- the C5 models are a significantly better value proposition, taking into account the on-road costs rolled into the price.

"The Citroen C5 is latest in a long line of full-size Citroens that have built an enviable reputation for style, technology and an unrivalled level of comfort," says Miles Williams, General Manager for Citroen in Australia. "With the new pricing for the entry level variants, the Citroen C5 further enhances another part of the Citroen reputation that applies to all its models -- value for money."

The C5 was recently upgraded with new engines and revised interior, but the large car has fallen prey to the market's fickle response to the GFC. While its year-to-date sales have not been far behind sales for the same period last year (213 vs. 238), the sales figure in July slumped from 58 in 2009 to 13 this year. Citroen's sales across the board have dropped from 997 for the first seven months of 2009 to 911 this year. That's a 31 per cent change of fortune in a market that has risen by 15.6 per cent overall.

The C5's price adjustment follows Citroen's repositioning of the C4 Picasso people mover last week -- now below $40,000.
