Ford is doubling the models offered in its ultra low-emissions ECOnetic range -- to two! Set to arrive in July, the new Transit Econetic van will join the ECOnetic Fiesta as the brand's green eco-warriors. Alas that's it for now, however -- there are currently no plans to offer Focus or Mondeo ECOnetic models any time soon.
The company says the Transit Econetic Van is good for 7.2L/100km and 189g/km CO emissions, putting it up the first-class end of its market segment in Australia for fuel economy and in top spot for CO2 emissions.
The 'green' Transit combines a remapped version of Ford's standard 2.2-litre Duratorq TDCi turbodiesel with a six-speed manual transmission, low-friction lubricants, low-resistance tyres and slippery hubcaps on its 16 inch steel wheels. A 'shift-now' indicator helps drivers maximise the fuel-efficiency of their driving style.
The standard Transit's fuel consumption is 8.2L/100km.
Ford says the ECOnetic Transit achieves its fuel efficiency improvements at no cost in cargo capacity or performance over the standard model. The vehicle retains the same 85kW at 3500rpm and 300Nm from 1800-2000rpm outputs. Indeed payload rises from 1100 to 1172kg.
"We have been looking for opportunities to extend our ECOnetic range of vehicles since we introduced the Fiesta ECOnetic in late 2009," Ford Australia marketing VP Beth Donovan said in a statement.
"Offering low fuel economy and emissions to commercial van customers, through a range of ECOnetic technologies, was the logical next step to build upon the extremely successful launch of the Fiesta ECOnetic."
But, as noted above, for now, that's where it stops. Despite -- or perhaps because of -- the laudatory reviews the ECOnetic range as a whole has been garnering in Europe.
Ford Australia communications manager Justin Lacy told the Carsales Network the company has no plans to expand its local Econetic lineup to include Focus or Mondeo models.
