Be treated by Carsales.com.au and grab 2009's most popular footy iPhone apps free

When the sports and automotive industries unite, it can go one of two ways -- evolve into a beautiful symbiosis that enriches the lives of all participants, or a present as a dirty great big dog's breakfast.

Thankfully, this pair of iPhone apps -- AFL Footy Live and Rugby League Live -- fall into the former category and, unlike last year, these apps are now free downloads! Yep, Carsales.com.au has paid for the app, so now everyone can get it for free.

Both apps offer similar systems to track your team throughout the year, complete with live score updates, full season fixtures, and importantly, a very neat Footy Tipping integration. This last feature lets you do all your tipping via the app and allows you to track injuries, team lists, and you can even compare stats and check out stadium data.

In short, it's a portable encyclopedia for footy fans. And did we mention it's free?

There's even a fantasy football option to build your Dream Team and work as a Super Coach, plus Stat Central with a decade of statistics to trawl though, and upgrades will be made to the app throughout the year to improve its functionality.

If you're a footy fan -- NRL or AFL -- and you have an iPhone, you could do a lot worse than downloading what was one of the most popular apps in Australia last year. It delivers mind-boggling amounts of information in seconds and is the ultimate partner for hardcore footy fans and part-time tragics alike.
