BMW's X5 started a soft-road revolution when it was first released in 1999. The sporty SUV paved the way for a packet of German rivals to follow.
11 years later, the success of the X5 is self-evident, and this week, following hot on the heels of the latest, third-generation launch, the popular model celebrating an important milestone as the one-millionth model rolls off the production line.
The seven-digit X5, an xDrive35i produced at BMW's Spartanburg plant, is finished in Sapphire Metallic Black with a Cinnamon Brown Nevada leather interior and is currently en route to its new owner in China. The X5 is now sold in 120 countries all over the globe.
Over the past decade, the award-winning X5 has spawned a raft of variants, numerous powerplants and even a stonking 'M' version. The model also lead the way for other 'X' branded models including the X1, X3 and controversially-styled X6.
The newest BMW X5 will be in showrooms this month with pricing starting at $92,100 for the entry-level xDrive30d.
