It has taken 40 years, but Land Rover's plant at Solihull in the UK has built Ranger Rover number one million.

The company held a celebration as the one millionth vehicle -- a black Range Rover Autobiography -- rolled down the line. Company employees attended and  MD Phil Popham subsequently drove the vehicle to London where a handover to British charity 'Help for Heroes' took place. Jeremy Clarkson, patron of the charity and presenter of top-rating TV program Top Gear, was on hand to accept the keys to the Range Rover, which will be auctioned to raise funds.

"Land Rover is very proud to support the Help for Heroes charity by donating the one millionth Range Rover," said Popham. "The vehicle will be auctioned later this year and should raise valuable funds for the practical and direct provision of aid for wounded service people and their families."

Equipped to the highest specification, the Range Rover is expected to fetch in excess of £100,000 when it goes to auction later this year.

"We're delighted that Land Rover has chosen to give Help for Heroes their millionth Range Rover," said Bryn Parry, CEO and Co-founder of Help for Heroes. "This is a real milestone in their history and so a very special donation, made even more special by knowing the money raised from the car will be able to provide much needed funds to help our wounded heroes on their road to recovery."
