BMW recently released details of its larger, more stylish second-generation X3, and now the first pics of the M Sport version have leaked onto the internet.
The new X3 manages to lose the slightly awkward looks of its predecessor even in standard trim, but the M Sport raises the bar higher via its full bodykit, which includes new side skirts, more aggressive bumpers and modified wheel arches to accommodate 19-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels.
Dynamic tweaks include stiffer sports suspension that lowers ride height, along with variable sports steering. Inside, there's a multifunction leather sports steering wheel with paddle shift and a custom gear lever for the eight-speed auto. Also on the menu are front seats trimmed in 'Pearlpoint' cloth-leather upholstery and an Anthracite roof liner.
The M-sport package is expected to launch in the first half of 2011, shortly after the standard vehicle hits the market.
As previously reported, the new X3 is said to bring more cabin space, optimised functionality and more cosseting living quarters.
The tech upgrades are headlined by a revised engine line-up and an all-new eight-speed automatic transmission. There's also new suspension and BMW EfficientDynamics tech (such as Stop/Start) to lower fuel consumption and emissions.
The newcomer will be offered with a 135kW diesel engine (X3 xDrive20d) and 225kW petrol power (X3 xDrive35i). Both models feature BMW's xDrive all-wheel-drive system, while Performance Control, Damper Control and Dynamic Drive Control will be optionally available.
The cockpit will also feature a range of BMW ConnectedDrive options, similar to those found in the new X5, including Head-Up Display (HUD), Internet Access (in selected countries) and a reversing camera with Top View.
