The BMW Z4 Roaster range might already seem sporty enough for most punters, but with the introduction of its new Z4 sDrive35is, BMW has taken topless performance to an exciting new level.

Sitting atop the current Z4 Roadster range -- above the sDrive23i, sDrive30i and sDrive35i -- the boosted Beemer features a modified 3.0-litre six-cylinder engine employing BMW's latest turbocharging and high precision injection technology. The results see an output figure of 250kW of power and 450Nm of torque, which can be briefly increased to 500Nm thanks to an overboost function.

Mated to BMW's seven-speed Double Clutch Transmission, the Roadster range's new hero includes launch control for neck-stretching acceleration. Against the stop watch, the new Z4sDrive35si now matches the 0-100km/h times set by the invincible M3 Coupe, the sprint managed in just 4.8 seconds.

"The Z4 is already recognised as a design icon and a triumph of engineering. Now in the form of the BMW Z4 sDrive35is, Australian performance enthusiasts can enjoy the ultimate BMW roadster experience," said BMW Group Australia managing director, Stavros Yallouridis.

Despite the lofty performance figures, BMW's EfficientDynamics technology ensures fuel consumption and CO2 emission emissions are identical to the car's derivative model, the 225kW Z4 sDrive35i, the 'is' model utilising such fuel saving technologies as Brake Energy Regeneration and Electric Power Steering.

Riding on exclusive 18-inch Star Spoke alloy wheels, the racy roadster is fitted standard with a unique M Sport Package that includes a more aggressive body kit and adaptive suspension (which reduces the ride height by 10mm).

Inside, bespoke floor mats are embroided with the car's model designation to highlight its range-topping appeal.

Priced from $129,900 the new hero of the Z4 Roadster range is in showrooms now.
