Dodge's iconic Viper is now on the verge of being laid to rest -- and a new-generation replacement is reportedly three years away -- but the company is planning to send the V10 sportster off in style with a limited production run of 'Final Edition' models.
Dodge says it will build just 50 Viper SRT10 Final Edition cars, which will be available in Coupe, Roadster and ACR (American Club Racer) configurations. Of the 50 cars, the breakdown is as follows: 20 Coupes, 18 Roadsters and 12 ACRs.
Each Final Edition Viper is distinguished by a Graphite Clear Coat body with a painted black centre stripe traced in red -- and Coupe and ACR variants also feature a black windshield surround. Befitting their low-volume status, all Final Edition models score unique side-sill badges.
Other external differentiators include a set of six-spoke wheels painted in Anthracite, while ACR models will come with five-spoke Sidewinder wheels in black.
As with the standard Viper SRT10, propulsion comes from a hulking 8.4-litre V10 that kicks out 450kW and 760Nm of torque. These are genuine supercar numbers, and so are the claimed performance figures (0-96km/h in less than 4 seconds, quarter-mile in the mid 11-second range, 0-160-0km/h in 11 seconds flat and a top speed of 325km/h.
Interior tweaks include custom red accent stitching, red painted halo surrounds on the gauge cluster and bright stainless steel screws in the centre-stack bezel. There's also Viper Final Edition floor mats and a numbered dash plaque (1-50) on the shifter bezel.
Dodge says it will begin production of the 2010 Dodge Viper Final Edition models in early (northern) summer, but it's yet to announce pricing. The standard Viper SRT10 Coupe starts at $US89,505 in the States, so a few thou north of this seems a reasonable guess...
