MERCEDES-BENZ SLK

Benz's new hyper drop top spied testing near the 'Ring

Our master spy photographers, Carparazzi, have managed to snap these images of the new 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK 63 AMG testing near Germany's famed Nürburgring.

The prototype shows SLS AMG-inspired styling, high performance brakes beneath 10-spoke alloy wheels and a quad exhaust.

Under the bonnet power will likely come from Merc's 5.5-litre twin-turbo V8 with output figures estimated at 400kW/800Nm, similar to that already seen in the recently announced S 63 AMG and CL 63 AMG, eclipsing acceleration times posted by the current 265kW offering.

And while Mercedes-Benz may limit the amount of power produced by its production version, like they did with the outrgoing R171, we're certain a few tuning companies will be itching to get their hands on both the car and the AMG Performance Package capable of pumping the figures as high as 420kW/900Nm.
