A new turbodiesel-powered Land Cruiser has joined the ranks, offering buyers in demanding climates a more appropriate, “tougher” workhorse.

Labelled the “spiritual successor” to the 100 Series Standard Grade ‘Cruiser, the new Land Cruiser GX offers a host of trade-tough additions to its GXL derivative. These include vinyl floors, vertically hinged rear doors (barn doors), 17-inch steel wheels, snorkel, 93-litre main and 45-litre auxiliary fuel tanks, five seats, under-body protection plates and a standard car key.

Creature comforts include a single-CD tuner with Bluetooth telephony and audio streaming, manual air conditioning, power windows and power mirrors. The rear bench seat is 60:40 split-fold while the urethane four-spoke steering wheel is adjustable for both tilt and reach.

Safety equipment remains unchanged from that offered in Land Cruiser GXL.

The GX is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.5-litre V8 turbodiesel engine developing 195kW/650Nm and is mated as standard to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Priced from $77,990 (MRLP) the new Toyota Land Cruiser GX is also covered by Toyota Service Advantage.
