This picture of the much-discussed Maserati SUV reportedly comes courtesy of a Frankfurt motor show pocket guide and previews the car's official introduction to German show goers next week.
The Italian sports car company's SUV is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee and will be targeted at Porsche's Cayenne with the hope of dramatically increasing the Italian company's global sales – by as much, it is being said, as a factor of 10.
Due to go on sale in 2013, the more rugged Maser is rumoured to be the recipient of the (Ferrari) 4.7-litre V8 seen in the Quattroporte model that produces 323kW.
The SUV is expected to drive all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Although it is based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, the Maserati SUV shows no evidence. Maserati design signatures abound, including the grille with its Trident symbol and the triple side vents in the front guards.
The Maserati is expected to be built alongside Jeep Grand Cherokees at the company's Detroit assembly plant in Jefferson North.
Given that the Maserati SUV preview came via the Frankfurt show pocket guide, it will be interesting to see what else might come to light prior to the show's opening early next week...
