AUDI S6

First you saw the undisguised Audi S6 sedan on test. Now, here’s the equally undisguised S6 Avant

Just weeks after bringing you photos of an undisguised Audi S6 sedan along come these Carparazzi photos of an equally free of frippery station wagon Avant version.

The big difference is the S6 sedan was captured in the USA, while these pix of the Avant were snapped on one of the industry’s favourite test locations at the Nurburgring in Germany.

Other than the wagon configuration, the S6 Avant looks pretty much identical to the sedan S6, right down to the chunky 19-inch wheels, air-gulping intakes and gaping grille. The illuminated headlights appear to be conventional Xenons, unlike the sedan version which was wearing LEDs – indicating the new technology may be optional rather than standard.

The S6 Avant otherwise shows the same cues as the sedan: quietly restrained side skirts, quad exhaust outlets and a subtle rear spoiler – on top of the tailgate of course.

The interior is expected to follow the same themes as the S6 sedan too: Sporty seats, faux carbon fibre trim and the odd S6 logo.

The engine is reputed to be the new turbocharged 340kW 4.0-litre V8, using cylinder deactivation to maximise economy and minimise emissions, and driving all four wheels through Audi’s seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The S6 Avant is expected to go on sale in Europe early in 2012.
