BMW has already released a raft of images and tech details pertaining to its eagerly anticipated new F10 M5 and it hasn’t held back with teaser videos either.

Well, here’s yet another instalment, and this video (featuring B-roll footage) is the best one yet, enabling M5 anoraks to cop a good eyeful of the newbie prowling inner-city streets as well as pounding around the challenging Ascari circuit in southern Spain.

The video also provides good sound bites of the twin-turbo V8 firing up and being given the beans at Ascari. What you’ll hear is a distinctly different sonic signature from the outgoing model’s high-strung atmo V10 – it’s less frenetic, but there’s still a pleasing urgency to it.

Also note the brisk gearshifts served up by the new seven-speed dual-clutch sequential transmission, which is bound to be a quantum leap ahead of the oldie’s jerky SMG III unit.

Here’s a quick recap on the new M5’s vital stats. Power comes from a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with a thumping 412kW and 680Nm -- a 10 per cent increase in power and a 30 per cent boost in torque over the E60 M5.

Each bank of the V8 is force-fed by a twin-scroll turbocharger, and BMW quotes a none-too-thirsty overall consumption figure of 9.9L/100km… but obviously expect considerably worse if laps around Ascari are on the menu.

The new M5 sprints to 100km/h in a claimed 4.4sec, and top speed is limited to 250km/h, but autobahn bombers can specify the optional M Driver’s Package, which enables the big sedan to hit 305km/h.

Standard kit includes 19-inch alloys, an Active M Differential, Dynamic Damper Control and DSC stability control with M Dynamic Mode. Inside, the M5 is swathed in Merino leather upholstery and features aluminium décor strips, headlining in anthracite and M sports seats.
