Fresh from the release of its 2010 launch of the 3008 HYbrid4 comes Peugeot's latest take on environmentally friendly motoring, the diesel-electric hybrid 508 RXH.

Set to make its public debut at next month's Frankfurt motor show, the 508 RXH leverages Peugeot's HYbrid4 platform to create what it says is a "completely individual model in the 508 range".

Slated for release in Europe in Q2 next year (2012), the 508 RXH is distinguished by a revised fascia, flared guards, DRLs and bespoke Calern Brown paint work. The show model rides on 18-inch alloy wheels, its stance widened to improve its all-wheel drive capability.

Though offered only in a single model grade the car's interior decor is said to be "lavishly appointed"; its colours and choice of materials specifically selected to complement the car's individual character.

The 508 RXH outputs 149kW from its 2.0-litre HDi FAP diesel-electric engine; the former driving the front wheels, the latter the rear. Fuel economy is rated at 4.0L/100km on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of 109g/km.

Just 300 examples of the limited edition show model will be available from the time of the show's opening, the production model to be available from next year.

Joining the 508 RXH, Peugeot's HX1 (not pictured) is said to marry "radical styling and environmental excellence", though it's strictly a concept car to gauge public interest.

Offering accommodation for six in a modular 4+2 configuration, the HX1 promises unconventional styling, unparalleled aerodynamics and a unique driving experience.

Designed to be flexible to customer's needs the HX1 measures 4930mm in length and boasts a drag coefficient of 0.28Cd. All four doors are reverse-opening. Inside, material selection is said to be modern, yet elegant with a high level of technical specification.

Much like the 508 RXH, the HX1 concept uses a diesel-electric hybrid drivetrain which outputs 223kW. Combined fuel consumption is rated at 3.2L/100km and CO2 emissions just 83g/km. In all-electric mode the car's range can be extended by up to 30km.

The Frankfurt International Motor Show runs from September 13 to 25.
