Honda’s next-generation Civic has gone on sale in the UK, just weeks after its public unveiling at the Frankfurt motor show.

Priced from £16,495 (AUD$26,500), the British-built Civic range is available with a range of diesel and petrol engines offering outputs between 74 and 110kW. All models are offered as standard with Honda’s ECON driving mode, familiar to Insight and Jazz Hybrid, which also includes idle stop-start on manual variants. Buyers can choose from six-speed manual or five-speed automatic transmissions.

Civic is available in four trim levels in the UK: SE, ES, EX and GT. Standard equipment levels include a five-inch driver information screen, daytime running lamps, alloy wheels, climate control, USB connectivity, rear wiper and headlamp timer.

On higher spec models, amenity levels stretch to include cruise control with speed limiter function, reversing camera, key fob-operated windows and door mirror folding, sat nav, Bluetooth telephony and auto wipers.

Top-spec Civic GT adds keyless entry and ignition, front and rear parking sensors, electrochromatic rear-view mirros, electric sunroof and bi-xenon headlamps.

Adaptive cruise control and collision mitigation braking systems are available optionally.

Australian pricing, specification and indeed timing for new Civic is yet to be confirmed, although we’re reasonably certain Honda Australia will not offer the (110kW) 2.2-litre i-DTEC turbodiesel model here. The smart money says local models will receive a (104kW) 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol.

The first deliveries to UK customers are expected in January.
