Porsche has released official pics of the new 911 Carrera, following images leaked on the web last week.
Completely redesigned with what Porsche says is a "stretched silhouette, exciting contours and precise design details", the new 911 is longer in wheelbase (+100mm) and shorter in height than the previous model.
From the outside, these details include newly designed 20-inch alloy wheels, resculptured and repositioned wing mirrors, while underneath, an all-new lightweight aluminium/steel composite body reduces the car's weight by up to 45kg.
Aerodynamic improvements come from a wider, variably extending rear spoiler, and inspiration for the cockpit decor has come from the Carrera GT.
New 911 Carrera and Carrera S boast improved performance and economy figures, too, with fuel consumption rated at 16 per cent lower than the previous model.
Porsche says it has achieved this result by adding an idle start/stop system and electrical recuperation system, electro-mechanical steering, by improving the engine's thermal management and introducing a seven-speed manual gearbox.
Carrera models will feature a 257kW version of Porsche's famed 3.4-litre Boxer engine which, when optioned with a PDK transmission, consumes just 8.2L/100km and emits 194g/km of CO2 on the NEDC scale.
The top-spec Carrera S produces 294kW from its 3.8-litre Boxer engine while reducing fuel consumption by 14 per cent. Now rated at 8.7L/100km the Carrera S emits 205g/km. Its 0-100km/h time is rated at 4.1 seconds when optioned with Porsche's Sport Chrono package.
Porsche's latest 911 will make its public debut at next month's Frankfurt motor show with Australian sales to commence in March 2012.
The Carrera will be priced from $229,900 and the Carrera S from $263,100.
