JAGUAR

Glory days relived at Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction

Enthusiasts who have hankered after a classic Jaguar from the company’s heydays would be advised to check out Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction on Monday, February 20.

Among the classic Jags up for auction are a superb Le Mans C-Type replica, two XK120s from the 1950s and two 1960s Mark II models.

The Le Mans C-Type was completed in 2003 and was “fastidiously” built by a NSW restoration specialist who has constructed no less than seven C-Type replicas. Measurements were taken from an original 1953 C-Type restored in New Zealand “some years ago.”

The car has accumulated just 500 miles (about 800 kilometres) on the odometer since 2003 and is expected to bring somewhere between $150,000 and $180,000 at auction.

Original Jags are represented too, with a black 1953 XK120 roadster sold in 1954 by Dominion Motors in Adelaide to shoe retailer Blacks Ltd. Decades later, the late-model XK120, with a number of XK140 features, was subjected to a “meticulous” 10-year restoration to factory specifications that was completed in 2010. It is expected to bring $100,000 to $120,000 at auction.

There’s also a 1954 Bordeaux Red fixed head XK120 coupe which is one of just 14 brought into the country. It was featured at the 1954 Sydney Motor Show before being sold by Bryson Industries to Reliance Trading in the same year.

In all, only 194 fixed head XK120 coupes were built by Jaguar. The car was restored in 1990 and is fitted with a later S-Type engine. It is expected to attract bids between $66,000 and $76,000.

Two classic Mk II sedans are also up for grabs at the auction: a 1963 3.8-litre manual with a fully-rebuilt, triple-carb engine and the classic British Racing Green/chrome wire wheel combination, and a 1969 240 model with complete service history and, according to Shannons, only two owners.

The 3.8 manual Mk II is expected to bring between $40,000 and $48,000, while the 240 is expected to sell for between $10,000 and $15,000.

The Shannons Sydney Summer Classic Auction will be held on February 20 at 65 Reserve Road St Leonards, starting at 7.00pm.
