Fresh off the boat from Japan, Subaru has today launched its newest generation vehicle, the high-riding, sub-compact SUV dubbed Impreza XV.
Said to be a “formidable fun-themed package”, Impreza XV boasts Subaru’s third-generation horizontally-opposed four-cylinder Boxer engine mated to the brand’s compact Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT), or six-speed manual.
Available as standard with idle stop-start technology, the Euro5 emissions compliant petrol engine delivers a combined cycle average of just 7.0L/100km, while emitting 162g/km of CO2. Subaru’s Dual Active Valve Control System (AVCS) ensures not only the economy gains mentioned, but better performance as well; Impreza XV outputting 110kW/196Nm.
Awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating, Impreza XV receives stability control anti-lock brakes, a reversing camera and seven airbags amongst its long list of standard safety equipment.
The new Subaru Impreza XV line-up comprises a total of three model variants, each available with the choice of manual or CVT transmissions. Equipment extends to 17-inch alloy wheels, climate control air-conditioning, leather upholstery and electric tilt/slide sunroof.
“Just as our Forester and Outback pioneered new segments for Subaru in Australia, XV will do the same,” explained Subaru Australia MD, Nick Senior.
“It’s engineered to be tough, yet economical; sporty, yet comfortable; stylish, yet fun and it’s got genuine Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive credentials, which sets it apart from many faux wheel drives that offer promise but no punch when it comes to real handling ability and grip.
“XV cleverly offers both nimble driving and impressive environmental credentials. [Parent company] Fuji Heavy Industries have also paid close attention to some critical areas including interior quality, efficiency and exterior design. They’ve clearly scored in each category.
“The XV appeals to people who enjoy expansive lifestyles. People who are active and enjoy new experiences. They don’t want to drive a large SUV, instead they demand car like ride and handling, and convenient cutting edge technology, to enable a fast paced adventurous lifestyle with comfort.
“The XV meets all these needs, with the lowest centre of gravity in its class, combined with the highest ground clearance, delivering a driving experience which offers car like handling and SUV capability.
