HYUNDAI

As Nissan asserts its plans to re-enter V8 Supercar racing, Hyundai reinforces a “no interest” policy on motorsport in Australia
discount new cars  » Get the best price on a new Hyundai Hyundai has underscored its position that it is not interested in entering V8 Supercars, despite Nissan's plans to re-enter the championship.

Hyundai has expressed previously that it does not see motor racing as a priority in Australia, despite many rumours to the contrary. And despite soon offering a platform ideally suited to Car of the Future regulations, the Genesis Coupe, Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s director of marketing, Oliver Mann, says motor racing is simply not a priority.

“There seems to be speculation [that Hyundai is looking to enter V8 Supercar racing], but it’s not started by anyone at Hyundai. There are so many other opportunities and priorities that go ahead of that,” reinforced Mann. “Hyundai has no plans to go into motor racing, and we’re not at a point in time where we’re selling V8-engined cars [here in Australia], so it’s not even a consideration.”

German manufacturers including Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have reiterated a similar standpoint, despite a firm commitment to similar forms of motorsport in Europe.

Chrysler, too, has weighed in to the argument, citing prohibitive costs as the rationale behind its decision not to run a 300C-based competitor against Ford, Holden and Nissan.
