1977 model (76 complianced) 3.0 turbo recently restored.
Australian delivered and matching engine number car. This was complianced in 1976 so deemed a 76 by vicroads but
Chassis number makes it the 55th of the updated 77 model with all changes associated with the 77 updated design (16” wheels as standard, different aircon ducts and some other changes).
This was ordered metallic silver on blue leather with Mackenzie beige inserts with yellow carpets a one off unique factory order for which we have a letter from Porsche identifying the as ordered state.
One of 41 Aussie Rhd 3,0 turbo 930s
One of 91 Rhd 3.0 turbos in the world.
Recently completed the restoration with less than 1000km since completion.
All mechanical works have been carried out by Kane Hearn from Zuffenhousen classics.
The glass out paint and body was performed by Craig from b@M refinishes in Fairfield, leaving underside, engine bay, front trunk and wheel arches in factory original paint showing the great preserved condition this car was in.
All door trims and windscreen surrounds re anodized (not painted)
Door handles have been black chromed.
New body seal kit, headlight and rear reflector were fit during final assembly with replated original hardware .
Leather for the interior was sourced, tanned and embossed with the correct nap by the tannery in Laverton matching the sample we had from the original door cards.
Carpets and seat inserts supplied by lakewell in Belgium. Correct hex pattern roof lining sourced from the Uk. We sourced the bamberg blaupunkt correct radio and center console with cassette holder and microphone from abroad. Peter blackmans team in moorabin performed the interior works with the materials and parts we supplied under strict instructions from me based on research I had performed. I was very fussy on where the stitching was and used Ryan snodgrasses book as a guideline during the restoration process. Headliner, carpets sourced from the Uk as that’s the only place I could find one with the correct hex pattern and thickness.
I have a spreadsheet tracking restoration expenses which tallied to 105k. In addition to the above :
Replacement of all suspension bushes, powder coating/plating of all suspension members, and recoating of all hardware, Rebuilt calipers, New brake disks and pads all round. New rear bilstein rear shocks, rebuilt front shocks.
Gearbox rebuild and assembled with new flywheel (new clutch was fitted by previous owner)
Rebuilt throttle body and distributor, new alternator, fuel lines, handles, New fuel pump. Replated all hardware including oil lines. New condenser drier & aircon lines through out. Yet to commission aircon unit.
Period correct freshly restored Fuchs (78 date stamped).
We sourced many of the parts online from other enthusiasts so I don’t have receipts for everything.
We’d like to think this is one of the best restored examples of a 930 turbo in Australia.
Outlaw garage did a video on the car that can be seen here
