1978 MORGAN 4/4 ROADSTER - MANUAL
The Morgan 4/4 is a British motor car which was produced by the Morgan Motor Company from 1936 to 2018.
It was Morgan's first car with four wheels, the name indicating that the model has four wheels and four cylinders (earlier Morgans had been three-wheelers, typically with V-twin engines).
Early publicity and advertising material variously referred to the model as "4/4", "4-4", "Four Four", and similar names, but from the outset the factory designation was always "4/4"
This example presents in Red with Black interior trim.
Delivered new by Museum Motors of Gisborne Vic on the 15th of November 1978.
After some ownership changes in Victoria, the vehicle has come under South Australian ownership and comes with several folders of information and photographs of it's past.
Latest service was completed on the 7th of September 2026 at 13,195 kms.
Powered by a 1600cc Ford Crossflow Cortina engine, it produced when new 62.5Kw and 125Nm of power and torque, delivered to the rear wheels via a 4 speed manual gearbox. Performance figures suggest 0-100kph in 10.0 secs and a top speed near 170kph.
Hand built at the Morgan Factory at Malvern in Worcestershire UK, the car has developed over the years in technology and engine changes, but still features the same hand built body style over a wooden frame.
The 4/4 1600 included improvements, with fluted taillights introduced in 1971 and three (rather than two) windscreen wipers being installed from 1976 on. Safety improvements include dual circuit brakes, a padded dashboard, and a cable-operated clutch; these all appeared in 1971.
Currently on Historic registration in South Australia, this is not transferable, however it would be eligible for similar schemes in other jurisdictions, which equates to minimal on road costs.
Ideal as a classic sportscar in the very best British tradition, it would be ideal for classic runs, events and show and shines.
