1996 Holden VS Series II Ute – Turbo LS1 – Fully Engineered – Full SA Registration
For sale is my highly modified VS Series II ute, built as a well-sorted, powerful and genuinely usable turbo LS1 street car.
Importantly, this is not an unfinished project or race-only car. It is fully engineered, on full South Australian road registration and built to be driven. It has been enjoyed at Whyalla Steel City Nats, Summernats, Mildura drags and roll racing at The Bend, while still being practical enough to tow a go-kart trailer.
ENGINE / TURBO
Built LS1 with LSA steel crank, Higgins cylinder heads and Crow hydraulic roller cam – 226/232 @ .050", .609/.602" lift, 112 LSA.
Aeroflow BOOSTED 7675 turbo, 1.15 A/R T4 twin-entry rear housing, FAST Big Mouth 102mm throttle body and Turbosmart external wastegate plumbed back into the exhaust.
Currently running a conservative approx. 10psi, producing a verified 395rwkW and approx. 800Nm at the wheels.
It was never built simply to chase dyno numbers or win Horsepower Heroes – the objective was a tough, reliable street ute with serious performance and everyday drivability.
FUEL
Twin in-tank Walbro 340 pumps, 1600cc injectors, 150L custom fuel tank and fuel cooler with radiator/fan.
Flex-fuel hardware is fitted for E85/98. Current factory GM ECU is the earlier version; a later OEM ECU is required to enable full automatic flex-fuel functionality.
DRIVELINE / CHASSIS
Refreshed built 4L60E automatic with billet-backed 3200rpm converter, 4-link rear, Viking coilovers, 3.25:1 diff, Detroit Locker, 31-spline axles, 1/2-inch rear wheel studs, mini tubs and chassis strengthening.
Wilwood 6-piston front brakes.
Street Pro wheels – 15x10 rear with Hoosier Pro Street 29x12.5R15LT tyres, 18x7 front with 225/45R18 Bridgestone Potenzas.
Additional Street Pro wheels/tyres, interceptor set and four steel burnout rims included.
INTERIOR / STREET EQUIPMENT
Retains the very useful 3-seat bench and column auto, Level 2 dash with factory tacho, engine temp, transmission temp, boost and oil pressure gauges, factory cruise control, A/C, power steering, central locking and power mirrors.
New seats, Alpine touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, upgraded sound system and BlackVue front/rear dash cameras.
New glass, tinted windows and Allin tow hitch.
ENGINEERING / DOCUMENTATION
Fully engineered through the SA modified vehicle approval process. Extensive documentation includes engineering certification plus brake, lane-change/handling, emissions and chassis rigidity testing, vehicle identity inspection, government approval and dyno documentation.

CONDITION
This is a genuinely driven 30-year-old ute, not a show queen. Paint is good to fair / driver quality, with age-related marks and imperfections on closer inspection. I'm deliberately being upfront about this.
If you want a freshly painted show car, this probably isn't for you. If you want a fully engineered, well-documented 395rwkW turbo LS1 VS that can actually be driven and enjoyed, that's exactly what this Ute was built to be.
