Ultra-Rare 2011 Tesla Roadster, Right-Hand Drive, the Car That Started It All
Tesla has revealed its new Roadster, and the original is getting a fresh wave of attention. Only about 2,400 were built worldwide, and fewer than 50 of them are right-hand drive. Even most Tesla owners have never seen one in the flesh.
A genuine piece of automotive history. Only a handful of cars have changed the motoring world. The 1886 Benz Motorwagen started the industry, the 1908 Model T brought the production line, and the 1912 Cadillac's electric starter made petrol king. Then in 2008 the Roadster became the first electric car to get price, range, charge time, battery life and performance right. It was the proof of concept that Tesla was built on, and it kicked off the modern EV revolution. Of those landmark cars, it's the only one you'd actually want to drive every day.
Rarer every year. When the Model S arrived, Tesla took many Roadsters in as trade-ins and used them for parts. With accidents and dead batteries on top of that, far fewer survive today than were built. A Roadster is also the only car in space: SpaceX launched one into orbit around the sun in 2018.
The most fun Tesla ever made. You sit about 15 cm off the road, the manual rack-and-pinion steering feels like a go-kart, and it does 0 - 100 km/h in 3.9 seconds. It's raw and pure fun.
