Need a cheap to run, clean and extremely reliable car for running around town?
This first generation Nissan Leaf has been one of the most reliable cars we've ever owned. Purchased new in 2014, almost nothing has gone wrong with it over that time! It is in excellent condition for its age and it just goes.
We are selling it because we have upgraded to a newer EV.

We recommend this car only to buyers who can charge an EV at home. Charging equipment included:
- Mobile charger that plugs into a 15 Amp household socket (see photo) for overnight trickle charging.
- A Type2-to-Type1 barrel adaptor for public AC charging using a tethered charger. We have charged this car using a Tesla wall charger with this adaptor 🙂
- A high quality 7 metre long Type2-to-Type1 charging cable for public AC charging using a BYO cable charger. Maximum AC charge rate is 3.6 kW.
- DC charging is via the front CHAdeMO port (see photo) not CCS2, and maximum charge rate is 40 kW. Public CHAdeMO chargers are becoming increasingly rare, so buyers need to be aware of that.
This car has a short range - maximum range is about 120km on ECO (see photo) but more realistically around 90-100 km non-Eco with air conditioning on. But if you can charge at home and only need a cheap low-maintenance city runabout, this could be for you!
Battery capacity loss over time is the main negative with the first generation Nissan Leaf. This car had a BRAND NEW battery installed in March 2021. 3 capacity bars have been lost since then (see photo) which means between 21-27% capacity loss in 5½ years, hence maximum range ~100 km.

This car had dealer servicing annually from 2015 to 2021, then independent mechanic servicing thereafter and annual NSW registration inspections. The 12V battery was replaced in June 2025. The tyres are in good condition with 4-5 mm tread depth at the front and 7-8 mm at the rear. A wheel rotation would be recommended soon.
We have loved this car and it will be sad to see it go, but we would love to see it go to a good home!

Overview
The LEAF EV was designed straight up as an electric motor driven vehicle, which gives it some unique features among the slowly growing EV market. For one, all the considerable weight is set low in the chassis, which adds stability, and a driving feel not unlike a high quality saloon car. The electric motor drives the front wheels and delivers more than adequate performance with its instant 280Nm of torque. Range is quoted at up to 170km, but with everything running it's considerably reduced, definitely putting it into the urban vehicle category. Safety is right up there with five ANCAP stars.
