The latest F30 3 Series had to be good - and it is, what with its ability to combine greater space, safety and mostly lower prices with lower fuel consumption and exhaust emissions. BMW's delightful six-cylinder engines are largely replaced by a new generation of turbo fours that prove to be more efficient, more powerful and surprisingly refined. However a dose of musical BMW six-cylinder power remains available, via the 225kW/400Nm TwinPower 3.0-litre engine that, via an eight-speed auto transmission, grabs 100km/h in just 5.5 seconds.
