The 2019 Mercedes-Benz C 300 is a great example of how Mercedes-Benz squeezed serious performance out of a relatively compact four-cylinder engine. Its 2.0-litre turbocharged M264 produces 190kW and 370Nm, enough for a claimed 0-100km/h time of around 6 seconds, while sending power through a sophisticated 9G-TRONIC nine-speed automatic to the rear wheels. Interestingly, the C 300 received a 10kW power increase over the previous version while retaining the same 370Nm of torque, giving it a particularly strong balance of performance and efficiency.
Inside, the C 300 was packed with technology that was impressive for its class at the time, including 64-colour ambient lighting, leather upholstery, paddle shifters, LED headlights and a digital instrument display. Another interesting detail is its staggered 19-inch wheel setup, running wider 245-section tyres at the rear than the 225-section fronts, giving the rear-wheel-drive sedan a more purposeful stance and additional grip. The C 300 could also reach a claimed 250km/h, making it much more than simply a comfortable luxury commuter, it was a genuine performance-oriented C-Class without stepping into AMG from Australia's largest Wholesaler of cars.
