The 2022 Maserati Levante Modena is an SUV with genuine Italian performance-car DNA, combining a 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 with Maserati's Q4 intelligent all-wheel-drive system and an eight-speed automatic transmission. In Australian specification, the Modena produces 257kW and 500Nm, enough for a claimed 0-100km/h in around 6.0 seconds and a 251km/h top speed. One of its cleverest features is the Q4 system, which can continuously vary torque distribution between the rear and front axles, allowing the Levante to retain a rear-wheel-drive character in normal conditions while sending drive forward when extra traction is needed.
The Levante also has an unusual blend of luxury and practicality for a Maserati, with electronically controlled air suspension capable of adjusting the vehicle's ride height and a generous 580-litre boot. For 2022, Maserati simplified the Levante range and made a suite of active safety technologies standard, including autonomous emergency braking, blind-spot assist, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control and traffic-sign recognition.
