The G6 is XPENG’s mid-size electric SUV and the Long Range is the pick of the range. It runs an 87.5 kWh battery with a WLTP range of up to 570 km, so it will cover a full week of city driving on one charge and handle a trip to the coast or the country without a stop.
Power comes from a 210 kW rear motor producing 440 Nm of torque, which gets the G6 from 0 to 100 km/h in a little over six seconds. It is smooth, quiet and quick when you need it to be.
Charging is where the G6 stands out. It is built on an 800-volt platform, so on a high-powered public charger it can go from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. At home it will charge overnight on a standard wall box.
Inside, the cabin is clean and modern. A 15-inch centre touchscreen runs everything, with a separate driver display behind the wheel. You get a full-length panoramic glass roof, heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, wireless phone charging and a premium sound system. The rear seat has plenty of leg room and the boot is a practical size with extra storage under the floor and a hidden compartment up front.
Safety and driver assistance is comprehensive and all standard. That includes adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, a 360-degree camera, automatic emergency braking and automatic parking. There is nothing to add on.
Ownership is simple too. The G6 is covered by XPENG’s 5-year, unlimited kilometre new vehicle warranty and an 8-year, 160,000 km high-voltage battery warranty, with roadside assistance included. Servicing is minimal compared to a petrol car, and running costs are a fraction of the price of fuel.
