11 car museums you can visit from the comfort of your own home

So everything is closed and you can’t really go outside BUT you do want to continue absorbing car culture. So what should you do?

Thanks to the powers of Google Maps, you can browse your favourite car museums from around the world from the comfort of your own lounge room. Or on the loo, it’s up to you, we're not judging...

We've scoured the internet and found the virtual museums created and uploaded to Google Maps. While there are several others museums with 360 degree snapshots, the ones we've listed here are basically a virtual walk-through of the buildings. Many of which we’ve previously recommended to actually visit in real life, so in the meantime, why not visit some museums at a click of a button.

Museo Lamborghini

See all the exhilarating heritage of the raging bull brand through the collection of classic and modern Lamborghini supercars, prototypes, bespoke one-off models and race cars. You can even virtually sit behind the wheel of the cars themselves.

Pagani Automobili S.P.A. HQ

Technically this isn't really a museum, and kind of looks more like someone's hobby room. The Pagani showroom at the companies HQ in Modena, Italy is small but allows you to get up close and intimate with these very unique, very expensive and very powerful vehicles. You're also able to sit in the driver's seat of a Huarya Coupe which retails for over $5 million.

McLaren Technology Centre

Take a stroll down memory lane and relive the glory days of McLaren's F1 efforts as well as browse their past and present sports cars. They's all housed at the British supercar maker's HQ where you can take a peak into where they test, build and create the cars. You can also peruse down the long walkway filled to the brim with the trophies from constructor’s championships, driver’s championships and 182 race victories.

The National Corvette Museum

If you're a Corvette fan or just love the nostalgia and magic of American muscle cars, then this museum solely dedicated to the Chevrolet Corvette in Kentuky, USA is for you. A real timewarp once you click the link and see the colours, the exhibits and the kitch decor of each Corvette decade. The museum has over 30 examples of the sports car from over the decades as well as examples of how the cars have been designed, engineered and constructed.

The Henry Ford Museum

The Legacy Gallery part of the Henry Ford Museum showcases some of the most famous Ford vehicles that have been made. They include the 1929 Model A, 1932 Ford V8, 1955 Ford Thunderbird and 1965 Ford Mustang. The museum also takes a wider look at Ford's influence and impact on American culture and society over the decades with other machinery and technology advances on display. You will also stumble across other brands of American made vehicles including a giant hot dog car in your exploration too.

Porsche Museum

The Porsche Museum lives next door to the company's HQ in Stuttgart, Germany and is home to over 80 iconic vehicles from the car makers long history. Throughout you'll see the heritage vehicles from when it all began, through to the legendary racing collection as well as the road cars the world has come to know and love Porsche for today.

Volvo Museum

Located just outside the Swedish city of Gothenburg, the Volvo Museum takes you through the history and heritage of the brand from its passenger cars, buses, trucks, marine engines and construction equipment. The museum has been around since 1955 and has built up a comprehensive archive and exhibits showcasing the unique history of one of Sweden's biggest exports.

Škoda Muzeum

The Škoda we know today originally produced equipment for the navy as well as manufacturing trains, planes, ships and tools. The company merged in 1924 with bicycle maker Laurin and Klement and moved into the automotive world where the brand remains today. The museum which is inside a converted production line from the old factory is down the road from the company's HQ in Mladá Boleslav, Czech Republic.

The Honda Collection Hall

The Honda Collection Hall is a fantastic snapshot of all of Honda's motoring and technology endeavours. From their road cars to bikes, racing cars to robots, lawnmowers to jet skis.

Mazda Museum

Australians love their Mazdas so why not check out the birthplace of the brand that brought such cars like the MX-5, 121 Bubble and CX-5 to the world. The museum at the head office in Hiroshima has some of the brands newest and most historic vehicles on display through its almost 100 year history.

Toyota Automobile Museum

This museum in Japan follows the history of Toyota vehicles from day one with chronological displays of rare & classic cars. Some of the cars which form the collection over several floors include models from other carmakers such as Bugatti, Alfa Romeo and Rolls-Royce. This is more of a historic museum where as the Toyota Kaikan Museum up the road in Nagoya focuses on technology and manufacturing.
