1MW XING Miss R supercar quicker than Tesla Roadster

All-wheel drive pure-electric said to be inspired by a rally car and can hit 100km/h in 1.8secs

XING Mobility has announced that it will launch a 1MW pure-electric supercar in 2018 that will be quicker than the recently revealed Tesla Roadster to 100km/h.

Claimed to have been inspired by a rally car, the curiously named Miss R being developed by the Taiwanese start-up is said to hit 100km/h in just 1.8 seconds and top out at 270km/h.

Tesla's Roadster, meanwhile, hits 97km/h (60mph) in a claimed 1.9 seconds but claws back an advantage with an impossibly high top speed of 400km/h.

Seen here in a video showing its new creation testing, unlike its US rival the new Miss R has been developed to be driven fast both on and off road.

Featuring four independent motors, the Miss R is all-wheel drive and employs torque vectoring for faster cornering.

While developing the Miss R, XING Mobility claims it developed a pioneering new system that cools the lithium-ion batteries beyond anything its competitors have.

The system works by using stackable Lego-like battery modules that each house 42 lithium-ion cells that sit in a special liquid cooling fluid developed by 3M.

With better cooling, the batteries are less at risk of overheating and can provide maximum power more safely -- allowing the use of huge powerful motors.

XING hasn't announced the range for its new Miss R but says that instead of providing a 1000km distance between charges its lightweight battery packs can be swapped within five minutes.

Production is said to begin in 2018 and XING Mobility says it plans to make just 20 Miss R with deliveries beginning in 2019.

Each car will cost a cool $1US million ($A1.3 million) – exactly four times as much as the only fractionally slower Tesla Roadster.

XING Mobility hopes its Miss R supercar will be viewed by the industry as a powerful proof of concept that will allow it to licence its new tech to other car manufacturers.
