Nissan has revamped its Maxima for 2006 with the main change the the mid-sized exec saloon the availability of a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT).
Drawing from the company's experience with the recently released Murano SUV, the new Maxima combines a 3.5-litre transverse V6 with the CVT. Like most current transmissions, the CVT also boasts a manual mode with six preset 'ratios.'
Nissan says the new transmission provides "smooth and responsive" acceleration and offers enhanced fuel economy.
The 2006-model Maxima has also come in for some subtle interior and exterior mods. Changes include new look front and rear bumpers, dual exhausts, LED taillights, redesigned headlights, front fogs and new six-spoke 17-inch alloy wheels.
Offered in ST-L and Ti variants, the 06 Maxima also gets a new look interior with metallic highlights replacing the timber-like accents and leather seat and door finishes at both trim levels
The ST-L features dual-zone automatic climate control with rear outlets, power windows, central locking with remote keyless entry, eight-way adjustable driver’s seat and four-way power adjustable front passenger seat, computer, cruise control, leather seat and door trim, metallic finishes, leather steering wheel and shifter and four-speaker AM/FM radio/CD player.
The Ti tops the range and adds an electric glass sunroof, intelligent keyless entry, six stacker CD player with six-speakers, illuminated driver and passenger vanity mirror, rear park assist and side curtain airbags.
