Volkswagen has launched its 2010 model Jetta small sedan range in Australia, priced from $28,990 (not including government and delivery charges) for the new 1.6-litre turbodiesel variant.
Though the 2010 VW Jetta doesn't look particularly different to the 2009 model, it's what's inside that counts. New engines, gearboxes and mild interior changes mark the 2010 Volkswagen Jetta model, plus front and rear parking sensors are now standard across the range.
The new $28,990 entry-level model is powered by a 1.6-litre TDI engine outputting 77kW/250Nm and when coupled with the standard five-speed manual gearbox, returns 4.9L/100km. Volkswagen also offers its seven-speed DSG automatic gearbox with the 1.6 TDI.
At the other end of the spectrum is the range-topping Jetta 2.0 TSI petrol model which outputs 147kW/280Nm and is priced at $38,990. It comes standard with the six-speed DSG auto transmission and is joined by the 125kW/350Nm 2.0 TDI.
Another fuel efficient entry to the range is the 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine, which is available with the seven-speed DSG. Outputting 118kW/240Nm thanks to its supercharged and turbocharged setup. It uses a claimed 6.8L/100km.
Measuring 4.54 metres long and 1.78 metres wide the Jetta is similar in size to the Holden Cruze, yet has a cavernous 527-litre boot, which is more cargo space than the Commodore large family sedan offers.
There are three turbodiesel TDI models and two petrol TSI models in the new 2010 Jetta model range. Prices do not include government or delivery charges.
