Nissan is believed to be readying its riposte to the 2010 Porsche 911 Turbo and recently unveiled GT2 RS -- namely an uprated GT-R that allegedly betters the existing car's Nürburgring lap time.
A report by US website Autoblog suggests Nissan's boffins have worked over the GT-R's twin-turbo 3.8-litre V6 to extract over 500 horsepower (373kW) and 610Nm (compared with 353kW and 588Nm for the current model).
The website also speculates that the updated GT-R debuts a reworked aero package, as well as a host of tweaks to the brakes and suspension.
"The exterior updates will likely be limited to a new front splitter, rear diffuser and a revised wing, all in an effort to increase downforce and drop lap times," reports Autoblog.
The current GT-R's Nürburgring Nordschleife benchmark is a 7min 26.70sec lap completed by factory test driver Toshio Suzuki on April 23, 2009 (watch the video here) -- although it's now been well documented that Porsche has disputed whether the car was in road trim and on standard tyres. Either way, it's no mean feat and the GT-R is definitely no slouch.
Autoblog reports that the updated GT-R underwent a new round of testing at the 'Ring last month, but no lap times have as yet been made public.
We're obviously expected a sub-7min 26sec lap, but it would be too much to expect it to pose a threat to the cracking 7min 18sec time posted by the hardcore Porsche GT2 RS.
